Camp Room on the Roof
Location: Situated at an altitude of 2100
mts camp is 20 kms from Chakrata and about 55 kms from Mussoorrie.
Chakrata is a very old army cantonment area and is known for
it's natural beauty and the culture of the Jaunsari people
inhabiting it.
The GIO camp, aptly called "Room On
The Roof", sits atop a hill comfortably nestled in the
forests. The vantage location offers a panoramic view of majestic
snow capped Himalayas. The salubrious weather makes it an
ideal summer destination. The location is unique in being
not too far from Delhi (290 kms), yet reasonably isolated
so as to not be swarming with summer holidaymakers.
The camp is the perfect kick-start point
for many treks into the snow-capped Himalayas. The surrounding
forests provide the setting for day hikes, trekking and camping
and the craggy rock-faces double up as excellent rock climbing
and rappelling areas. Winding trails that lead across hills
and into the verdant woods are great for Mountain biking.
Blessed with a rich variety of Himalayan
flora and fauna, this is an ideal location for exploration
and learning. Visits to nearby villages provide more than
a glimpse into the rich culture and traditions unique to the
region. All in all, it's a location that meets every requirement
for an outdoor program like Kshitij.
