Nestled snugly in the lap of the snow capped peaks of Panchachuli, the Darma
Valley in Phithoragarh district is endowed with abundant scenic grandeur. 135
kms from Phithoragarh and 35 kms from Dharchula is the last bus terminal,
Dar. From Dar to Panchachuli Glacier is a 31 kms trek. The route to the glacier
abounds in exotic scenery, snow capped mountains, gushing streams, Alpine
meadows and a rich variety of flora and fauna. From the glacier one can see
the Panchachuli peaks towering in the Himalayan glory. |

After breakfast at Dharchula in the morning, we drive to Dar. En route one
passes mini and micro hydel projects (many streams and water falls). This is the
starting point of our trek towards Dar (7000 ft). During the trek we walk across
plenty of wooden bridges to cross some streams. The first glacier waits for us 4
kms from Dar. The first day ends at a stream at Urthing. You might spot wild
animals on the other side of the river Dhauli (50 mts from our tents). The stream
flows right through the camp. Stay overnight at the camp. |

Urthing – Naglin

After breakfast we set our feet towards Naglin. After trekking through the
mountainous forests, we stay at the village at Naglin. We experience some of the
local delights, food, cultural evening (local dance, music). The place gets its
name from its literal translation Nag (cobra) + ling (phallus). The sinuous
mountains bear stripes on their faces, resembling the most revered breed in
snakes in the region, Nag. Lunch enroute. |

Naglin – Dugtu/Sone Camp (9 kms/Trek) (9000 ft) |
After breakfast we follow the trail/pass through lush green forests, sprinkled with
flowers of rare colors. We walk past the village Bailin, where we stop to examine
how the natives harness a mill, with medieval technology. We have our lunch and
carry on, to cross a glacier. The Dhauli river roars in the silence of the mountains.
Numerous flocks of sheep, yak can be seen grazing around, on our way to the
Base Camp.

After a lazy breakfast and exploring the bugyals around, we set out towards the
Panchachuli glacier (2 kms trek). We spend as much time as we want, around
the icy giants, have lunch and head back the camp.
