As soon as the word ‘Expedition’ catches one’s attention, an entire picture of hard work, perseverance and survival flashes in front of his eyes, but here is how Webster’s has put it after over one and half century of research.

Expedition

  • A military campaign designed to achieve a specific objective in a foreign country.
  • An organized group of people undertaking a journey for a particular purpose; "an expedition was sent to explore Mars".
  • A journey organized for a particular purpose.
  • A journey taken for pleasure; "many summer excursions to the shore"; "it was merely a pleasure trip"; "after cautious sashays into the field".
  • The property of being prompt and efficient; "it was done with dispatch".
The word as an idea however finds its roots in 1430s and bears a French/Latin origin, as an outcome of exploring enemy grounds.

GIO Adventures borrows the philosophy and blends it with thrill, essentially making us stick to the 2nd and 4th definitions. GIO however stresses on the fact that a failed expedition can’t be classified as an expedition. 8 years of experience in the rough Himalayas, gives GIO Adventures an edge in leading and translating enthusiasm into a successful venture, i.e. a true expedition.

Mountaineering

GIO Adventures leads both technical and non-technical ascents. We demarcate our climbing expeditions into the following two categories:

  • Height Gain (or Trekking) – We have planned itineraries of different grades to provide for the complete safety of the adventure seekers. Ideally different age groups can participate depending on the grade. It’s a great way to feel a peak without actually putting in lot of effort. Some of the treks might need acclimatization1depending on the targeted height.

  • 1acclimatization- spending a night at a lesser altitude to let the body adapt to the heights as and when a group or person climbs higher. The essential thing to note is that the snow line (the altitude where snow starts) is lower in the Greater Himalayas as compared to the Lesser Himalayas.

  • Technical – We train the basics of technical equipments, rock climbing, rappelling, ice climbing, using crampons, ropes and knots, safety and high altitude medical emergencies. The training is a precursor followed by short field demonstrations and finally leaving for the expedition. We reserve our own rights to asses a member for technical ascents.

RAFTING & KAYAKING

Theodre Roosevelt (President, USA, 1901 – 1909) once said “Life is a great Adventure”. He set precincts to the most famous expeditions on the river Amazon in 1912, with his son Kermit and a Brazilian explorer. The mortifying journey led him through dangerous jungles, native Indians and near death situations. His tools: make shift wooden rafts, canoes carved out of age old trees and wooden oars. The challenges: the inexorable wild and the intrepid river. 54 yrs old then, he set an example for the entire world; adventure and thrill has no bar of age, sex or creed. Its pure passion.

GIO Adventure sets its own courses for white water rafting and kayakin adventures. We lead expeditions through Zanskar (Laddakh), Upper Alakhnanda and Bhagirathi. These stretches are continues adventures and thrill with back to back white water drops. These courses bring you face to face with Class (IV+) rapids.

TREKKING

When we talk of trekking different pictures float in one’s mind, depending on the kind of experiences one has had, under this classification. Trekking, however, has boundless potential. One can take on a difficult trek and an easy trek. Trekking expedition however encompasses the most difficult ones, one can think of, in India.

GIO Adventures takes you through the following treks:
• Kalindikhal Trek
• Nandadevi Santuary
• Remote Zanskar (highest inhabited point on Earth)

The above treks are challenging for nerves and paradise for seekers. Like it’s said, “The harder one can work, endure, the farther one can go and kiss the remotest the points on earth; but in the end it’s more of a will power, the strength of mind.”

If you think you have the strength of mind to the tad of a miniscule, welcome on board with GIO Trekking Expedition. It takes guts to walk an expedition.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

Mountain biking started kicking first when people started hitting dirt trails on a bike (bicycle). Mountain bikes ever since have under gone an engineering change. The front suspensions changed from coil spring to oil suspensions. The rear suspension too started fancying coil and oil suspensions for jump offs. The High Himalayas don’t really need the rear suspension unless one wants to hit the dirt tracks (that are plenty). The bikes need to be light enough. The ideal bikes are light weight trek bikes with front
